Welcome to The Faded Reel

I’m sure most of you are wondering, “What in the heck is this whole thing about?” Well, to answer such a question, let me tell you a story.

There once was a little girl who grew up under the watchful eye of two incredible, crazy individuals. Some people knew them as my grandparents, while I knew them as Poppi and Grammie. Inside their large red house, they introduced me to the black and white fantasy worlds of cinema. From the dance moves of Gene Kelly, to the incredible dramatics of Bette Davis, along with the sweeping moments of Gone with the Wind – I learned it all.

A bit later, in 1996, my grandfather won the lotto to go to Walt Disney World. This would be my first trip and would stand as an important moment in my life – where I would be introduced to the now extinct Great Movie Ride at Disney’s “MGM” Hollywood Studios. This was the place where the lessons and individuals my grandparents introduced me to call came together. The puzzle pieces and building blocks of the adult I would become took shape.

So, to answer simply, The Faded Reel is a place to continue what my Grandparents did for me. I want to share the movies that changed my life and celebrate the magic that movies contain. Because as much as I loved learning from the masters (like my heroes Robert Osborne of TCM and critic Leonard Maltin) I want to add my own bit of sparkle to the subject. So I hope that The Faded Reel can be a place for people who are fans, wish to be fans, or want to know why the heck people are fans of film (classic or soon-to-be.)
